Visual acuity and color discrimination in patients with cataracts.

Color vision tests can give information about pathological changes in eye structures. The purpose of our research was to study the color vision sensitivity and visual acuity changes before and after cataract surgery. We used a saturated Farnsworth D15 color vision arrangement test to check color sensitivity changes in confusion line directions. The test is easily perceptible (essential to eldery patients), and it is possible to check color sensitivity changes in tritan, protan, and deutan confusion line directions. Color-discrimination threshold determination using pseudoisochromatic test plates

We produced a set of pseudoisochromatic plates for determining individual color-difference thresholds to assess test performance and test properties, and analyzed the results. We report a high test validity and classification ability for the deficiency type and severity level [comparable to that of the fourth edition of the Hardy–Rand–Rittler (HRR) test]. We discuss changes of the acceptable chromatic shifts from the protan and deutan confusion lines along the CIE xy diagram, and the high correlation of individual color-difference thresholds and the red–green discrimination index. Contrast sensitivity and color perception with orange and yellow intraocular lenses

To evaluate contrast sensitivity function (CSF) and color vision after implantation of either orange or yellow-tinted intraocular lenses (IOLs).Fifty-six eyes of 28 cataract patients who had bilateral implantation of orange-tinted (PC440Y Orange, Ophtec), yellow-tinted (AcrySof Natural SN60AT, Alcon), or clear (AcrySof SA60AT, Alcon) IOLs were examined. Concerning the calculation of the color gamut in a digital camera

Several methods to determine the color gamut of any digital camera are shown. Since an input device is additive, its color triangle was obtained from their spectral sensitivities and it was compared with the theoretical sensors of Ives-Abney-Yule and MacAdam. On the other hand, the RGB digital data of the optimal or MacAdam colors were simulated to transform them into XYZ data according to the colorimetric profile of the digital camera. Color discrimination under mesopic conditions in cats and humans

The ability to discriminate colors under various levels of mesopic illumination was studied in three cats using colored papers as stimuli and with a computer controlled training schedule. Discrimination based on brightness differences was prevented using a new method in which illuminant color was varied. The luminance threshold for color discrimination in cats was found to be 0.5 cd/m2, close to the cone threshold reported by others from ganglion cell recordings. The same experiment was carried out with human subjects and revealed a luminance threshold of 0.00042 cd/m2 for color discrimination.

The stability of color discrimination threshold determined using pseudoisochromatic test plates

Congenital red-green color vision deficiency is one of the most common genetic disorders. A previously printed set of pseudoisochromatic plates (KAMS test, 2012) was created for individual discrimination threshold determination in case of mild congenital red-green color vision deficiency using neutral colors (colors confused with gray).
